CHASKA, Minn. — Rory McIlroy got his man.

He wanted to play against Phil Mickelson in this Ryder Cup and, in Saturday morning’s foursomes match alongside Thomas Pieters, he played Mickelson and Rickie Fowler and won, 4-and-2.

McIlroy entered the day with an 0-3 career record against Mickelson in Ryder Cups.

“When I saw the draw [Friday] night, I was like, ‘Yes, I get to have a go at him again,’ ” McIlroy said. “My record against him in the Ryder Cup isn’t what I would like it to be. So personally, I maybe wanted it a little bit more for that reason. That was my fourth time up against Phil in the Ryder Cup and thankfully I was able to get one back on him.’’
