LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Even if the Mike Repole entry of Uncle Mo and Stay Thirsty finishes up the track in the Kentucky Derby (for a total cost of $100,000 to enter and start both colts), it won’t be a total waste.
They are being sponsored in the race by Repole’s all-natural snack company, Pirate Brands, and their jockeys — John Velazquez on Mo, Ramon Dominguez on Thirsty — will display the Pirate’s Booty logo on their white pants.
“Uncle Mo and Stay Thirsty were my Derby exacta,” Repole said. “But now with Pirate’s Booty onboard as the sponsor for both horses, we have the perfect trifecta.”
With a spiel like that, it’s no wonder Repole, the founder of Vitaminwater, was able to sell the company to Coca-Cola for $4.2 billion.
