The Tyler Van Dyke era in Wisconsin has likely come to a quick end.
The Badgers quarterback, who transferred to Wisconsin after four polarizing seasons at Miami, exited the team’s 42-10 loss to No. 4 Alabama on Saturday with a knee injury in the first quarter.
“I don’t think it looks real good for us, for him,” head coach Luke Fickell said after the game.

He immediately grabbed at his right knee and remained on the ground in pain before he was carted off the field.
He was ruled out before the start of the second half.

The Badgers ended up kicking a field goal on the drive and took a 3-0 lead, but Van Dyke’s injury overshadowed the strong start.
Alabama took a 7-3 edge by the end of the first quarter and cruised the rest of the way.

Locke struggled, completing just 13 of 26 passes for 125 yards and a touchdown.
He had battled Van Dyke throughout the summer for the starting quarterback job after completing 50 percent of his passes for 777 yards, five touchdowns and one interception last year filling in for an injured Tanner Mordecai.

“I’ll give you guys the same message I just gave them,” Fickell said. “If you haven’t had your [butt] whooped before, you just did. It hurts. It’s not easy. But in this game, that’s going to happen. It’s part of the game. It stinks. It doesn’t mean you didn’t work hard. It doesn’t mean you didn’t prepare. It means you didn’t get the job done.”
