tRY IT NOWSun guard Leïla Lacan intercepted Breanna Stewart’s pass intended for Sabrina Ionescu with only six seconds left in Monday night’s game and the Liberty up by only two.
But as Lacan took off to the other end for a potential game-tying layup, Ionescu and Kennedy Burke chased her down and managed to cleanly stop Lacan to secure the Liberty’s 81-79 win.
Stewart, who led the team in scoring in her first game back in a month, said she was “shocked” the Sun weren’t fouling on the Liberty’s final possession.
In hindsight, she admitted she probably should’ve driven baseline or held the ball rather than making what she called a “dumb decision.”

When Burke was informed that Ionescu was credited in the boxscore for the game-saving block, she joked that Ionescu owed her a “bag of hot fries or ice cream.”
The Liberty made Monday’s win a lot harder than it needed to be.
Then again, that seems to be a trend with this team.
The Liberty led by as many as 17 points in the first quarter before the Sun clawed their way back into the game.
It wasn’t the usual suspects for Connecticut who got hot.
Aneesah Morrow had 18 points and 15 rebounds and Lacan scored a game-high 22 points off the bench.
But the Liberty managed to ultimately pull off a gritty win.

Jones registered her 101st career double-double Monday after scoring 18 points on 8-of-10 shooting and grabbing 11 rebounds.
She also had six assists — four of which were recorded in the first quarter.
The Liberty improved to 33-0 in the regular season when Jones registered a double-double.
Liberty coach Sandy Brondello corrected herself postgame, announcing that Natasha Cloud did in fact suffer a “slight fracture” in her nose during Saturday’s game in Atlanta.
Cloud missed Monday’s game but is expected to play Thursday.
