LA JOLLA, Calif. — Tiger Woods finished the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines at 3-under for the week. If not for a gas-bag fan in the gallery, Woods might have been 4-under.
As Woods drew his putter back on a 15-foot birdie putt on the par-5 13th hole (his fourth hole of the round, which began on No. 10), a fan blurted out that obnoxious, clichéd golf rant: “Get in the hole!”
The noise pollution clearly distracted Woods, whose putting stroke appeared affected by the sudden burst. He missed the putt and angrily looked back at where the fan was.
Fans yelled for the offending spectator to be ejected from the grounds, with one yelling, “C’mon, man,” and another saying, “Throw him out!”
The crowds following Woods — on Sunday including Golden State Warriors star Andre Iguodala (with whom Woods chatted for about five minutes during a backup on the third tee) — were massive and major championship-like all week.
