The Undertaker is getting his WWE farewell.
The company announced Friday that the legendary wrestler, who said in June he was retiring at the end of the “Last Ride” docuseries, will get his “Final Farewell” at the Survivor Series pay-per-view on Nov. 22 (7 p.m., WWE). It’s part of a month-long celebration of Undertaker’s 30 years with WWE. The 55-year-old Undertaker, whose real name is Mark Calaway, debuted with the company at Survivor Series in 1990, so this could bring things full-circle.
While Undertaker has said his boneyard match with A.J. Styles at WrestleMania 36 was his last after years of wear and tear on his body, the cinematic nature of the match never gave him a chance to say a proper on-screen goodbye to WWE fans. There will be no fans in attendance at Survivor Series because of the coronavirus pandemic, but the WWE’s ThunderDome setup at Amway Center in Orlando, Fla., does have videoboards to allow for virtual fans.
If the company doesn’t use this opportunity to set up an angle for the future, it will likely hammer home that idea that Undertaker really is retired this time with it being billed as his final farewell.
