The WWE champion has COVID-19.

Drew McIntyre, 35, tested positive for coronavirus and has been put into quarantine, WWE announced on Monday. The two-time WWE champion made his first comments since his diagnosis on this week’s “Monday Night Raw.”

“I’m one of the fortunate ones with no symptoms, but I assure you COVID should not be taken lightly,” McIntyre said in a video message. “Don’t think you can’t catch it because you can. If it can happen to me it can happen to anybody. And the only way we are going to be able to stop this thing is by working together. So please, wear your mask, follow social distancing guidelines. It’s not just to protect you but to protect everyone and their loved ones. I’ll see you all really, really soon. But until then, stay safe.”

McIntyre, whose real name is Drew Galloway, had been scheduled for a match with Randy Orton.

The news could put McIntyre’s championship pay-per-view match against 54-year-old WWE Hall of Famer Bill Goldberg at the Royal Rumble in jeopardy if the Scotsman has a prolonged bout with the virus.

The event is scheduled for Jan. 31.

McIntyre, who has been one of WWE’s brightest stars and mainstays during the pandemic, wrestled last Monday in a title match against Keith Lee before being confronted by Goldberg as “Raw” went off the air. It’s unclear the ripple effect McIntyre’s diagnosis could have on the roster through contact tracing

WWE has been running its recent shows, which are fanless, from Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla. It began testing its talent and employees for coronavirus in June. WWE, along with other wrestling companies, has had multiple members come down with the virus, including a reported outbreak in late June.
