That was fiendishly satisfying.

It took two tries for WWE to get us a fitting Universal championship change for “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt. The moment closed a mostly entertaining “Crown Jewel” show in Saudi Arabia on Thursday.

The falls-count-anywhere match between Seth Rollins and The Fiend toyed with your emotions and appeared headed for an unsatisfactory finish, similiar to the one that was booed at “Hell in a Cell,” before delivering an amazing visual and a proper title switch. WWE should consider losing the creepy red lighting, however. The Undertaker didn’t need to wrestle in purple light to get over, so there’s no reason to keep doing it with The Fiend — except maybe in special circumstances.

At Crown Jewel, the Saudi Arabia crowd was into the hardcore-style match replete with chairs, a sledgehammer and other goodies. Wyatt moved and carried himself throughout the match like an otherworldly, possessed being, which was a great character touch. He even rested on the top rope after sending Rollins through tables for a fun moment.

Once they took the match to the stage, it looked like we were headed for another wonky finish, even though the match stipulation said it could not be stopped for any reason. Rollins was continually stomping on The Fiend, who kept getting back up. The champion finally superkicked The Fiend down into some electrical equipment, setting off flashes and flames. But Rollins was unable to cover The Fiend, leaving this sinking feeling it was headed for a weird ending.

Instead, Rollins was caught in the face by an electrical flash, and The Fiend popped up from behind him with his creepy mask grin like nothing happened. It was the defining image of the show — especially on Halloween. The Fiend locked in the Mandible Claw and then pinned Rollins to become Universal champion, to the delight of the WWE universe.

The company now has an over champion who is a spectacle to see, and when he does lose — hopefully not for a while — it has a chance to be extremely meaningful.

There are still some logistics to work out, such as WWE champion Brock Lesnar and The Fiend both being on “SmackDown” (maybe we see another trade with “Raw”). But WWE has set itself up well moving forward. SmackDown needs a ratings boost after last week’s poor number, and a Miz TV segment with Wyatt on Friday night is must-see. Rollins has a reason to ask for a rematch because he may have had the Crown Jewel match won before the sparks.

It will be curious to see how The Fiend is used going forward. The tone of his character screams heel, but he is getting crowd reactions like a babyface. Who’s next to feud with The Fiend after Rollins will tell you all you need to know.

Until then, enjoy WWE listening to the feedback and delivering a satisfying moment for its hottest character.
