It’s 3:17 and I’m sitting in the Yankee Stadium press box. No rain. Opening Night looks good.

I’m going to start something new. I’m going to call it Super Tuesday Top 10. Every Tuesday I will run a top 10 list. Please contribute. Any suggestions, fire away.

My Top 10 list, and this is not a Letterman Top 10, this is a real Top 10, can deal with anything. But today I am going to give you the Top 10 things I miss about the old Yankee Stadium.

Not the Yankee Stadium I’m sitting in now, but the Top 10 from the old, real Yankee Stadium, the one that used to be here before it was redone.

I’m working from memory here, so if I make a mistake, live with it, it’s not the end of the world. Here goes:

10. The posts. I used to like sitting next to a post. I had more room even if I used to have to be a contortionist to watch the game.

9. The food, when you are younger the hot dogs were so much better.

8. Doubleheaders. Nothing was better than a Sunday doubleheader.

7. The old scoreboard. I loved watching the out of town scores go up.

6. The overhang behind home plate. You were right on top of the action. I remember getting on Nestor Chylak in a good natured way with my buddies and Chylak promptly turned around, looked up and gave us a greeting. He was a great umpire.

5. The old broadcast booth. One of my buddies actually got in the booth one day to talk to Phil Rizzuto.

4. The Tigers, they were a great opponent to the Yankees. And they had cool uniforms.

3. Cheap seats, and believe me Bleacher Creatures, you were not as rowdy as the those bleacher seaters. That was one wild party.

2. The old rightfield corner. That made it Yankee Stadium.

1. Walking on the field after the game and exiting through centerfield past the monuments and actually walking on the same ground that Mickey Mantle walked.

That’s it, your turn. Add one or 10, it’s up to you.
