The Yankees never rest when it comes to pitching, and it has been learned that they are in talks with free-agent reliever Juan Acevedo.

The 6-2, 195-pound right-hander compiled a career-high 28 saves last season for the woeful Tigers as he finished with a 1-5 record and a 2.65 ERA. Over his seven-year career Acevedo is 27-35 with a 4.16 ERA.

Acevedo, who will turn 33 in May, pitched 601/3 innings last season, allowing 68 hits and striking out 43 while walking 23 batters. The Yankees are rebuilding their bullpen and are looking to sign Acevedo to a minor- league contract. Acevedo is represented by Tom Reich, who has always had an excellent working relationship with George Steinbrenner.
