TAMPA – Don Zimmer’s first hole-in-one cost him a dinner check Thursday night when the venerable Yankees bench coach was on hand at the opening of Jack Willies, an Oldsmar restaurant owned by Yankee pitching guru Billy Connors.
“I am buying, I got a hole-in-one,” Zimmer announced.
Playing at Tarpon Springs Wentworth Country Club’s 12th hole with former Yankee pitching greats Ron Guidry, Goose Gossage and pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre, Zimmer watched his nine-iron shot bounce twice on the green before going into the cup 135 yards away.
