Computers say the darndest things.

Research scientist Janelle Shane trained a neural network to create candy heart messages — and the results range from cute (“Love Bot”) and confusing (“Love 2000 Hogs Yea) to the downright crude (“Stank Love.”)

To train the AI, Shane collected all the “genuine heart messages” she could find and fed the data to the machine, according to her blog post on the project.

The AI then takes the data and tries to recognize patterns in order to imitate them itself. But, evident from phrases like “Bog Love,” “Cool Cud” and “Sweat Poo,” AI machines still don’t quite understand human language.

In addition to the seemingly innocent messages, the AI also churned out some very NSFW ones, including “Time 2 Wank,” “Titt Kiss” and “Anl Love.”

Shane noted that some of the more inappropriate words weren’t included in the original data set and that the AI “must have arrived at them because they seemed like they would be something pronounceable.”
