Apple said users had trouble making purchases through its iTunes and App Stores starting early Wednesday.
The Cupertino, Calif.-based tech giant said its various stores had been plagued by outages for at least six hours. The App Store was still unavailable for all users as of 11:04 a.m., according to Apple’s site.
“Customers may be unable to make purchases from the App Store, iTunes Store, iBooks Store or Mac App Store,” read a system update on Apple’s site.
The company didn’t immediately return an email seeking comment, although there was no indication that hackers had attacked the system.
Users around the globe reported error messages or delays in trying to install or update apps as well as log into their accounts. They took to Twitter to report problems with hash tags #appstoredown and #itunesdown.
The Apple Store was closed briefly Monday while the company unveiled details of its smartwatch, which doesn’t go on sale until April 24.
