Apple appears to be putting its automotive plans in reverse.
The tech giant has relocated or laid off roughly 1,000 employees who were working on the project, according to a Bloomberg report citing sources.
The car initiative, called “Project Titan,” has changed its focus to a software solution to develop an autonomous driving system. Such a system could work with existing car makers, according to Bloomberg.
The new, smaller automotive team has until late next year to prove the concept of self-driving technology, sources said.
Apple spokesman Tom Neumayr declined to comment on the report.
