Mattel had a couple tricks up their sleeves at their DC Comics panel in San Diego: No new reveals in the Batman ’66 line (hmm…) and for all intents and purposes, it seems like they’re moving in a very different direction. The Unlimited lines, unless I’m very wrong, appear to have seen their day.
They announced two new lines — DC Multiverse and Total Heroes.
The 4-inch scale Multiverse line will exploit DC’s multimedia properties, at $8.99 a pop. Hitting shelves next year, the first wave will focus on the Batman Arkham video games and the second will be all about movies. 6 figures per wave, at least three planned. That movie wave will include Michael Keaton Batman.
The very affordable, 6-inch Total Heroes line appears geared to getting Mom or Dad to give in at Target (or wherever) when li’l Johnny DC begs for The Flash … at a mere $9.99. Also will hit next year and will be New 52 figures.
(Note: There will be Beware the Batman figs based on the new animated show, as well.)
Here are some pix, from Mattel:

They featured the Batman ’66 line at the panel, but only touted items already announced. Beforehand, when I pressed Mattel about what might be next, they held firm that they had nothing new to announce.
Draw your own conclusions. I’ve drawn mine.
