Is there anything creepier than a little girl humming a song in a high-pitched tone? The correct answer is: No, there is not.
Good thing that won’t be what you get when you download the 12 tracks that make up “Bioshock’s” orchestral score here.
Composed by Garry Schyman (who also did the “Destroy All Humans!” franchise and TV’s “Revenge of the Nerds III: The Next Generation”), it’s an “orchestral masterpiece that serenades you through your journey into the heart of Rapture.”
Why they’re making this free when the “Kameo: Elements of Power” and “Perfect Dark Zero” soundtracks retail for $15.98 at Amazon is anybody’s guess. But, there’s been some speculation that it’s an attempt at making amends for the whole widescreen boo hoo hoo problem that you can read all about on the Aug. 22 news post on the Cult of Rapture site (same link as above). If you’re looking for a little more composing street cred – should that sort of thing float your boat – the Academy Award-nominated composer John Debney (of “The Passion of the Christ” and “Sin City” fame) has created the music for the PS3’s “Lair” title. It can be heard in fully uncompressed 7.1 surround sound, “a quality that is rarely experienced in video games.”
