The great thing about the New York comics scene (sorry, outworlders) is that it’s so vibrant, there always seems to be something going on beyond new books coming out every Wednesday. There are signings, workshops, you name it.
Periodically, we at Parallel Worlds will list some of the ones we dig – and that we think you’ll dig too:
MONDAY, JUNE 17
Jen Ferguson’s ‘Out Of Luck’
7 p.m.: “Winners, Losers and Voyeurs: Drawing at the Race Track.” At the 48th meeting of the New York Comics & Picture-story Symposium, Brooklyn-based artist Jen Ferguson will talk all about the racetrack and drawing. According to the official release: “In this talk she will discuss her working style, drawing at the track, and the inspiration that setting has provided. She will also present drawings from her book ‘Railbirds: My Life at the Track’ and ‘Out of Luck,’ based on HBO’s series “Luck,” which she illustrates.”

TUESDAY, JUNE 18
6:30-10 p.m.: Drink & Draw: Some of the city’s coolest cartoonists, led by Khary Randolph, gather for this monthly art jam. It’s usually the second Wednesday of the month but this time it’s this Tuesday. Khary tells us, “There will be a burlesque figure drawing element starring the model Scarlett Lace. It’s free, although we suggest a donation of $10 with the proceeds going toward the model. It’s a small intimate event but it’s created a great community of likeminded artists that love to come together and just jam for a couple of hours a month.”

THURSDAY, JUNE 27

Amy will be talking to us about her project, as well as doing a demo and talking about perspective.” Also joining us will be Special Guest Host Grace Randolph, from “Think About the Ink” and “Beyond the Trailer.”
