SAN FRANCISCO — Electronic Arts Inc. said Tuesday it will buy Popcap, a maker of mobile and casual video games, in a deal that could reach a total value of $1.3 billion.

In a statement, EA said it has agreed to pay approximately $650 million in cash and another $100 million in stock to buy the privately held PopCap. In addition, EA has agreed to pay as much as $550 million in earnouts if certain financial milestones are met by the end of the 2013 calendar year.

PopCap is the maker of popular games such as “Bejeweled,” “Plants vs. Zombies” and “Zuma” that are played on game consoles, mobile devices and PCs.
