The family of a former Amazon employee has hit the online retail giant with a $6.5 million wrongful death suit, claiming its failure to give him paid time off after a bad fall ultimately lead to his demise.

Ronald Ashley, 53, began working as a manager of global human resources solutions at the company’s Seattle headquarters in February 2015.

A year later, he fractured his spine in a spill at home, which then exacerbated his HIV and other health issues, according to his family’s suit.

Ashley went on a three-month medical leave but Amazon denied extending it further, which caused him “to go into a crippling depression” and fall on hard times financially, the suit filed in Manhattan Supreme Court claims.

Ashley appealed Amazon’s decision multiple times to no avail and died in November 2017 of a heart attack.

“[The neglect shows] the bureaucratic mess at Amazon as a result of the company’s rapid expansion. Due to its fast development this corporate gargantuan is unable to keep pace with the imperative requests made by its employees,” the suit says.

Amazon announced plans to build a new headquarters in Long Island City, Queens, and another in Arlington, Va.

Ronald’s brother Dwayne — who lives in midtown Manhattan — is the main driver of the suit, which is why it was filed in New York.

“[Amazon] did not give [Ronald] the benefits he was due. This was a dedicated employee,” Dwayne, 51, said.

A rep for Amazon declined to comment on the suit but said, “Amazon follows all federal, state and local laws.”
