Nostalgia is pretty freakin’ awesome.

If I could pick one game that shaped my gaming experience as a lad, Goldeneye 007 for the N64 would be in the running.

If I told you the amount of hours I wasted away on that game, you would consider it a modern miracle that I am not a vegetable.

Well for anyone who had the same kind of experience with the original Goldeneye as I did, get ready to clear your social calendars because come November, your world will revolve around Bond, James Bond.

In the 2010 reimagining of the beloved FPS, players will lead Bond, the Daniel Craig incarnation, through the same missions as in the original, but with amped up graphics and much smoother gameplay.

The presentation of the game is what is going to jog fans’ memory, although there are some changes that have been made.

First off, the game features all of the A-list talent you would expect to see in a Bond film, with Craig and Judi Dench (M) providing the voice work for their computerized counterparts, and David Arnold, who has composed the music for the last two Bond movies, providing the tunes.

Players will also notice that there will be a briefing before each mission, giving a detailed look at the mission’s landscape and objectives. This cinematic view takes the place of the old manila folder presentation from the original version.

Once in the actual level, gamers will have the option to take more of a run-and-gun, Pierce Brosnan-style approach, or take the more subtle, silent assassin-type approach that Daniel Craig’s Bond is more accustomed to. Either way, there will be several different routes to take through each level and thus the replay value is magnified.

This game pushes the Wii to it’s graphical limits, with the environments being destructible, facial expressions changing constantly and the weather playing a significant role in setting the scene for each level.

Multiplayer will feature dozens of characters, including several familiar faces from Bond films in the past, as well as modifiers and gameplay options, making this an incredibly deep multiplayer game for the Wii. I was able to play a few rounds of multiplayer action on split screen. We played “Conflict” mode, which is a straight up deathmatch free-for-all, and Golden Gun mode, where there is a single Golden Gun hidden in the map and players earn more points for kills made with the weapon.

Multiplayer will also feature different awards your character can win based on performance in a given match.

I played the game on a Wii Classic Controller Pro, which seemed to play pretty smoothly as an FPS, but the game will also support nunchuck, zapper and Gamecube controller play.

My one gripe was that the controls and precision weren’t as crisp as those for an FPS on the Xbox 360 or PS3 are, but again the Wii isn’t about playing with a regular controller. I’m sure the real fun comes in when playing with the zapper or nunchuck.

In any case, Goldeneye 007 for the Wii is shaping up to be one of the biggest hits of the Fall, and will be sure to gets fans of the original just dying to “Finish the Job.”
