In The Pipe From Pogo
Pogo.com, the casual games juggernaut that was acquired by EA back in 2001, has more than a few interesting pieces of software headed for various platforms. DS included.
The five most popular games on Pogo.com, in fact, will be coming to the portable in the form of Pogo Island. The compilation includes Word Whomp, Poppit!, Phlinx, Tri-Peaks Solitaire and Squelchies. While the multiplayer is limited to ad-hoc play, Pogo tokens (the websiteâs currency) can be accrued and transferred to your Pogo.com account.
While that might not sound like a huge deal, Iâve come to learn that dedicated Pogo.com members have an incredible and wholly insatiable appetite for tokens. Itâs a little frightening to see people so rabid about casual games. Pogo is also working with Bizarre Creations on a new rhythm-based Xbox Live Arcade game called Boom Boom Rocket, which is heavy on the fireworks and light on complication. After seeing it, and being told that itâs the kind of game one can use to get their girlfriend to play, the first thought in my head was that itâs going to be very popular with people who like to space out and stare at pretty colors.
The biggest offering from Pogo, arguably, is Fairy Godmother Tycoon.
Yeah, it sounds kind of like a sissy game, but don’t be so quick to judge. Itâs strange enough to entertain anyone.
As the name Tycoon implies, itâs a business sim that involves magic and trolls and Grimm Fairy Tale pedestrians. However, Fairy Godmother Tycoon has more in common with Rocky And Bullwinkle, The Three Stooges and Looney Toons than any childrenâs books.
Godmother is a capitalist in the purest sense. Having magical abilities really just means that her business arsenal is a bit bigger. As her assistant, youâve got to make sure her brand and chain stores succeed â and you can use any means necessary to do so.
Such as hiring Goons and Mafioso bears to drive traffic away from competitorâs stores.
And youâll need to be clever about things as well since thereâs occasionally times when the chance of being set on fire from the environment is beyond 30%. Rain potions will be a big seller on those days.
Pogo Island and Fairy Godmother Tycoon will be available in March.
