Hot dog! Part 1 of “Mortal Kombat: Legacy,” the live action digital series, is now up on Machinima’s YouTube site. For those of you who missed it the first time around, it’s Kevin Tancharoen’s officially sanctioned reboot of the live action “Mortal Kombat” franchise – greenlit after he directed and produced the most awesome, unofficial “Mortal Kombat: Rebirth” short last year.
“Mortal Kombat: Legacy” stars Jeri Ryan (“Star Trek: Voyager”) as Sonya Blade, Michael Jai White (“The Dark Knight”) as Major Jackson “Jax” Briggs and Darren Shahlavi (“300”) as Kano, with Tahmoh Penikett (“Battlestar Galactica,” “Dollhouse”) as Kurtis Stryker among the semi-regulars popping up throughout.
The series of shorts is aimed at exploring the history of the MK fighters that you’ve known and loved for nearly two decades now. It’s all part of the hype machine surrounding the release of “Mortal Kombat” (the new game) which hits stores on April 19.
As you may or may not know, a new graphics engine is driving the revitalized “Fatality” game element – and it’s gorier and more detailed than before. There’s also new gameplay in the form of tag team and a deep story mode.
