Good news “Mass Effect” addicts – the final chapter in the trilogy is being prepped for launch. (And by final, I mean “final until they decide it’s oh-oh-oh prequel time.) As proof that it is, in fact, on its way, EA has released the first teaser trailer for “Mass Effect 3.” Titled “Earth,” you get a dramatic eyeful of the destruction underway on the planet and a soldier imploring Shepard to come and save the day.

In case you missed it during the Spike Video Game Awards over the weekend, here’s the trailer in all its glory:

More good news: “ME 3” will launch simultaneously on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC for the first time in the trilogy’s history.

But with all good news, comes bad news: Game’s a year away. It’s not due in stores until next holiday season. You can pre-order it here.

While you wait, I suggest replaying the heck out of “ME 2” to max out your Shepard in preparation for importing him/her to the next game. Make your choices wisely this time around.

If you’re a PS3 user, “ME 2” – incidently named “Best RPG” and “Best Xbox 360 Game” of the year at the Spike VGAs – will be in stores on Jan. 18, which gives you plenty of time to catch up before “ME 3” hits. (Get your demo on, on PlayStation Network starting Dec. 21.)
