Want to be the very best? It just got a whole lot easier!
Registration for the upcoming Pokemon Autumn Friendly, the first-ever online video game tournament, has been expanded to not only include over 10,000 players, but has also been extended until Wednesday, Oct. 19th.
In order to sign up for the Autumn Friendly, gamers will need a copy of Pokemon White Version or Pokemon Black Version and their own Nintendo 3DS or any other DS system. Players must also have a Pokemon Trainer Club account in order to participate.
While the Autumn Friendly is not considered part of the official Play! Pokemon tournament season schedule, and Championship Points will not be rewarded, it is the first time that trainers can battle in a Pokemon-sanctioned Global Battle Union tournament.
The Autumn Friendly serves as a warm-up for those looking to compete in the Regional Championships, which in an effort to reach more players, is being split into two different schedules. Between the United States and Canada, there will be 15 different Regional Championship events, with players eligible to play in a maximum of two.
Seven Regional Championship events will take place on the weekend of Nov. 12-13 and the eight others will take place in April 2012.
In addition to the split schedule, Regional Championship events (both Trading Card Game and video game-related) will take place on the same weekend. TCG players will compete on Saturdays, with the TCG finals taking place on Sundays, and video game competitors battling on Sundays only.
The introduction of the Championship Points system as well as the new schedules and events are something that the Pokemon world is excited about, allowing for what is already a major global brand to expand its reach,
“The 2011-2012 Play! Pokemon season has all the makings of becoming the biggest, most competitive Pokemon tournament season to date. With the new point system and tournament structure, we will give more Pokemon players the opportunity to have fun and compete at our events,” J.C. Smith, director of Consumer Marketing for The Pokemon Company International, said in a press release.
