Sprint is allowing customers with a replacement Samsung Galaxy Note 7 to exchange the device for another type of smartphone, according to a Recode report.
Sprint made the decision amid concerns that the replacement phones are also defective following an incident Wednesday in which a Southwest Airlines flight was canceled after a passenger’s Note 7 — allegedly a replacement model — began popping and smoking before takeoff.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission and Samsung are investigating the issue, Recode said.
Samsung halted sales of the original Note 7 Sept. 2 after multiple reports of fires caused by a battery problem. It began shipping replacements last month.
A Sprint representative told Recode, “If a Sprint customer with a replacement Note 7 has any concerns regarding their device, we will exchange it for any other device at any Sprint retail store during the investigation window.”
