Electronic Arts and BP (the energy company) have hooked up to include climate change education in “SimCity Societies,” the new version of the building/city/etc-building game out on Nov. 15.

Low-carbon electricity choices and monitoring of your SimCity’s carbon emissions will allegedly provide an “entertaining, fully-integrated and accurate look at some of the causes and some of the major solutions available to combat rising levels of carbon and to help address the threat of global warming.”

While you won’t be forced to power your city with thousands of wind powered energy things, making the choice to use green power will come with advantages, while using less environmentally friendly options will come with disadvantages – like droughts and heatwaves – just like in real life!

As someone who totally loved demolishing crappy oil power plants with fusion power, I have to say, I’m kind of excited. Of course, it’s just a game, so it’s not like we’re actually saving the world by playing it…and, like, you gotta wonder how much damage is being done by having the computer on for so many hours…
