The much-anticipated Nintendo Switch video-game console will go on sale for a daunting $300 in March — the company’s first new system since the popular Wii debuted more than a decade ago.
The system lets players use the device as a regular handheld, on a tabletop or on the screen of a TV set, via a wireless connection.
Nintendo announced the new system at a live-broadcast press conference in Tokyo.
Another media event is scheduled for New York on Friday morning.
Nintendo is hoping the Switch will buttress a turnaround after disappointing sales of the Wii U and the 3DS handheld.
