One person was killed and two injured in Taiwan on Thursday when a scaffolding collapsed on the set of Martin Scorsese’s latest movie, authorities said.

Chen Yu-lung, 45, died at a local hospital and two co-workers suffered leg fractures and head injuries, Taipei City fire officials told Central European News.

All three workers were contractors for the movie, “Silence,” which will be about two Jesuit priests in 17th-century Japan.

The movie is based on a 1966 novel by Japanese writer Shusaku Endo and will feature Liam Neeson and Andrew Garfield.

“The director is shocked and saddened that one worker was fatally wounded. He regrets that this incident happened,” said Dave Lee, a local spokesman for Scorsese.

The lot being used for Scorsese’s flick is owned by the Chinese Culture and Movie Center.

The three workers were dismantling a building that producers had deemed unsafe when scaffolding suddenly fell, according to the Taipei City Department of Cultural Affairs.

Shooting on the set, which was expected to begin Friday, has been suspended while the incident is investigated, according to Hung Te-hao, a spokesman for the Taipei City Construction Management Office.

The 72-year-old Scorsese reportedly picked this shooting locale at the suggestion of fellow directing great Ang Lee, a native of the island nation just off the southeast coast of China.
