A 10-year-old boy was struck in the head by a stray bullet while walking home from school in Philadelphia on Wednesday, reports said.

The boy, identified as Semaj O’Branty, was on the sidewalk in the Frankford neighborhood when a gunman pulled up in a car and began firing at about 3:30 p.m., according to CBS Philadelphia.

A man rushed over to the sidewalk and shielded the boy while gunshots rang out. That man then pulled out a pistol and began firing back — while shielding the child.

The boy was then struck by gunfire and the gunman sped off in a red Pontiac.

The man who fired back was arrested by Philadelphia police Wednesday night, according to the report.

Investigators recovered video of the shooting at the scene.

“He tries to cover the kid and protect the kid, but the kid takes a shot and you see him go down in the video,” Police Capt. John Walker told CBS Philadelphia.

The kid was rushed to a nearby hospital in critical but stable condition.

Police are searching for the gunman.
