A 16-year-old girl died Saturday afternoon when she fell from a cliff in western New York, authorities said.

The Cattaraugus County Sheriff’s Office said it received several 911 calls about the incident around 5:40 p.m. at the Zoar Valley, which is a popular hiking destination with gorges and waterfalls.

No further details were released about the fatal fall, or the victim, but the investigation is ongoing, authorities said.

There have been several deadly accidents at the site, including 20-year-old Hamburg man who fell while climbing into a waterfall to snap a photo in July 2018.

In 2017, a Buffalo couple fell to their deaths during a family hiking trip that left their two young sons, ages 4 and 7, injured.
