Two people were killed and 10 others were hospitalized when a passenger van en route to New York-area crashed in North Carolina, according to police and reports.

The passenger van, carrying 14 people, crashed at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday night on I-95, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

ABC11 reported the van was headed back up to the New York Metropolitan Area.

The driver of the van may have nodded off, according to WRAL-TV.

The extent of the injuries was not known Sunday afternoon.
