A 2-year-old boy was abandoned at a Mississippi Goodwill drop-off location with a bag of clothes and a note on Monday, police said.

Officers with the Southaven Police Department found the youngster at about 10 a.m. and turned him over to Child Protective Services, authorities said.

Surveillance footage from the Southaven location showed the boy was left by a man who fled the scene on foot.

The FBI joined the investigation. Police said by 3:30 p.m. they took a suspect into custody in Memphis, Tennessee.

Authorities did not immediately provide any information on the suspect, or confirm if it was the man seen abandoning the boy.

The SouthHaven Police Department wrote on Facebook that the boy “is well, and being taken care of and will be reunited with family when CPS determines this is proper.”
