BEIJING — State media say a court in western China has sentenced three people to death for planning a deadly car ramming at Beijing’s iconic Tiananmen Gate that was blamed on Muslim separatists.

A car plowed through tourists and ended up in a fiery crash in the Oct. 28, 2013, attack in the heart of Beijing, killing two bystanders and the three attackers.

The official Xinhua News Agency said three people were sentenced to death Monday in the case in the Xinjiang regional capital of Urumqi, and that five other people were sentenced to prison terms.
