A 5-year-old Georgia girl died after being shot in the face in what police believe was an accidental shooting, according to local reports.

Officers responded to a 911 call around 3:30 p.m. Friday and found the child injured inside her family home in Lithonia, just outside of Atlanta, Fox 5 reported.

She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she later died.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the shooting, but said it appears to be an accident.

“Grown men feel sad and want to cry when they see things like this,” DeKalb County Police Major A.T. Mears told the station. “Be responsible if you have weapons. If you have guns and children make sure you are responsible and take care of those things. Look after the children.”
