DETROIT — Police said a 5-year-old girl was killed and her mother wounded in a shooting at a home in Detroit.
Detroit police Commander Elaine Bryant told reporters that the girl was pronounced dead at a hospital following the shooting Thursday night on the city’s west side. Bryant said the mother was in serious condition at a hospital.
Bryant said at least one person entered the home before opening fire. She said “a couple of” other people who were in the home at the time were not injured.
Bryant said the shooting is “tragic” and that “the child is an innocent victim.”
Police haven’t released any details about possible suspects.
Bryant appealed for anyone with information about the shooting to come forward.
