A five-year-old Utah boy is dead after accidentally shooting himself in the head with his parents’ handgun.
Brooks Thomas Wilson was playing in his parents’ bedroom Thursday afternoon when he found the loaded 9mm pistol and it discharged after he picked it up.
The boy’s parents, Bryan and Kristin Wilson, were home at the time and rushed into the room after hearing the gunshot, according to the Daily Mail.
His father attempted CPR as the parents waited for help to arrive, but the boy died at the house.

Utah law does not require prosecution for people who leave unattended weapons accessible to minors, and also does not require weapons to be secured, according to the Giffords Law Center.
The Wilsons have four children together, including Brooks. The boy’s mother is a preschool teacher.
