Officials have ordered the evacuation of between 400 and 500 homes as a massive fire spreads quickly through Lake Hughes in Los Angeles County, according to local outlets.

The blaze was first reported by the Los Angeles Fire Department around 6:30 p.m. eastern time Wednesday in the Angeles National Forest.

The fire burned through the woodlands rapidly, growing from 50 acres to 7,000 acres in a matter of roughly two hours, fire officials said.

Two hundred firefighters from 50 engines are on the scene battling the blaze, called the Lake Fire, as large clouds of smoke rise from the mountainous region. Several other agencies are also responding as local deputies evacuate residents.

“This fire is growing at an extreme rate in steep terrain,” the National Weather Service warned on Twitter.

No injuries or structural damage were immediately reported, according to the local ABC affiliate.
