A 9-year-old Georgia boy who witnessed his mother’s murder helped cops identify the shooter and land him behind bars, authorities said.

Darius Deandre Evans, of Lake City, was arrested in Lovejoy on Sunday morning after a six-hour manhunt for the suspect, who is accused of shooting the woman multiple times inside a Lake City apartment late Saturday, according to the Clayton County Sheriff’s Office.

The young boy told responding officers that Evans shot his mother after an argument and walked out of the apartment before returning to shoot her again, authorities said.

The woman, who was not immediately identified, was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

The woman’s son “made it clear” to deputies that he wanted the man responsible for killing his mother apprehended, so he rode along with Clayton County Sheriff Victor Jill to show authorities where he believed Evans might have fled, according to an advisory released by sheriff officials.

Evans was arrested about six hours later by the department’s Fugitive Squad in Lovejoy, authorities said.

Evans is facing charges of aggravated assault and murder with malice. His bond amount at a jail in Clayton County had not been set as of Monday afternoon, jail records show.
