ATLANTA — Authorities say a small plane has crashed into a subdivision in the northern Atlanta suburbs, killing the pilot and setting a house ablaze.

FAA spokesman Rick Breitenfeldt says a Cessna Citation I crashed about 3 miles northeast of Cobb County International Airport about 7:20 p.m. Friday en route to Fulton County Airport.

A Cobb County Fire Department spokesperson says the plane crashed next to a house and exploded. The house next door caught on fire from the radiant heat and was fully engulfed when the department arrived on the scene, she said.

The spokesperson said the only known victim is the sole occupant of the plane; everyone in both houses got out safely.

The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate.
