The security guard accused of shooting a Navy veteran dead at a Denver rally had a legal permit to carry concealed weapons — until it was yanked in the wake of the deadly incident Saturday, according to a report.
Elbert County Sheriff Tim Norton said he has canceled Matthew Dolloff’s carry permit pending the outcome of his first-degree murder case in the shooting of Lee Keltner at a “Patriot Rally” demonstration in the Colorado city, KCNC-TV reported Monday.
“I have suspended it until the outcome of his criminal case and he will not be able to carry a concealed weapon in the state of Colorado,” the sheriff told the station. “I’m in the process of seizing this permit back to my office.”
He said Dolloff, 30, was issued the permit in June 2018.
“He did the CBI background check, paid his fees, everything came back clear and he was issued a CCW permit,” Norton said.
Dolloff lives in the town of Elizabeth, Colorado which is inside Elbert County.
It is not known how many weapons Dolloff owns. The sheriff’s office did not respond to a request for information from The Post.
Denver city officials said Sunday that Dolloff, who was subcontracted through the Pinkerton detective agency to work as a for-hire security guard for a local TV station, was not licensed to work as a security guard.
