The mother of slain jogger Ahmaud Arbery says the man who filmed her son’s shooting death should be prosecuted along with the two white men charged in his killing.
Wanda Cooper-Jones said William “Roddie” Bryan, who filmed the now-viral video of her son’s Feb. 23 slaying, must be held accountable along with the accused killers, she told TMZ.
“We want all parties involved to go to prison for life,” Cooper-Jones told the outlet Tuesday.
She said that includes Gregory McMichael, 64, and his son Travis McMichael, 34, who were arrested last week and charged with murder in Arbery’s death.
But she also wants Bryan to be prosecuted.
S. Lee Merritt, a lawyer for Arbery’s family, told TMZ Bryan “actively participated in the ambush according to previous statements by the McMichaels.”
Merritt also maintained that his forensic expert “says that he was likely holding and brandishing a firearm.”
Bryan, who has denied wrongdoing, told “Good Morning America” on Tuesday that he is “not proud” that he filmed Arbery’s shooting death, but hopes “it helps in the end.”
Arbery was jogging in the Brunswick, Georgia, neighborhood when the McMichaels cut him off and confronted him. Travis McMichael got out of their pickup truck and struggled with Arbery, who was shot twice in the chest by a shotgun and died at the scene.
Bryan’s video, which didn’t go public until earlier this month, sparked national outrage over the killing and led to the McMichaels’ arrests on murder charges last week.
He could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
