A US Air Force pilot flying through the northern lights has shared this stunning selfie from his cockpit.

Ross Franquemont was 70,000 feet over Canada when his U-2 Dragon Lady was enveloped in wild shades of green and blue.

Capturing an aurora borealis, caused by electromagnetic sun particles rippling through Earth’s atmosphere, made Franquemont a star among his fellow officers. Many had flown through one but were unable to document it — “Finally, someone was able to capture it,” one pilot told him.

Franquemont, 40, said he’d like to take everyone up to witness an aurora but, “We’ll have to wait for Virgin Galactic.”
