A Southwest Airlines flight skidded off the runway during heavy rains at a California airport Thursday morning, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

There were no reports of injuries from the incident at Hollywood Burbank Airport, FAA spokesman Ian Gregor said.

Flight 278, carrying 117 people, “rolled off the end” of a runway shortly after 9:05 a.m. PST while landing “and came to a rest in the Engineered Material Arresting System,” the FAA said.

EMAS is a safety system designed to stop an aircraft if it goes off the end of a runway.

In the aftermath of the incident, the FAA implemented a temporary ground stop for Burbank flights departing from airports within about a three-hour flying distance of Burbank, Gregor said.

Photos of the plane quickly emerged on social media, showing the ground below it broken up.

“We are alive. The plane was a few feet from plowing thru the barrier and taking out numerous cars. Crazy stuff,” Instagram user @petenicks posted.

Hollywood Burbank Airport remains open.
