Freshman New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez earned some geek cred over the weekend by crashing an online charity marathon game of “Donkey Kong 64.”

The ultra-left-wing media darling called in Sunday to the livestreaming platform Twitch, where people were playing to raise money for Mermaids UK, a charity whose goal is to help transgender children.
The campaign was organized by YouTuber H.Bomberguy, or Harry Brewis, who nearly jumped out of his chair when Ocasio-Cortez called in, according to clips of the interaction.
On the stream, Ocasio-Cortez talked about the ongoing government shutdown, trans rights and her favorite gaming system, the N64.
“It’s a no-brainer. Trans rights are civil rights are human rights,” the Democratic congresswoman said.
After her surprise appearance, Ocasio-Cortez tweeted that she couldn’t wait to do a “Twitch 101 class with House Dems,” a nod to a session she hosted with her colleagues on the secrets to social media success.
By the time the 58-hour marathon wrapped up, the YouTuber had raised over $340,000. Ocasio-Cortez said she’d been invited to the stream by convicted classified document leaker-turned-activist Chelsea Manning, who also made a cameo.
