Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez received a booster dose of the Pfizer coronavirus vaccine Friday.
The congresswoman revealed the news in an Instagram story that same evening.
“My side effects from the first 2 shots have largely been sore arm and day-after fatigue. Right now my arm is sore again,” she wrote. “But I am not as tired as I was the last time. We’ll see tomorrow.”
The congresswoman also shared a smiling photo of herself highlighting a bandaid over where she received the injection.
So far the Food and Drug Administration has approved the Pfizer coronavirus booster shot for use in certain populations six months after receiving their initial vaccine.
Anyone 65 years and older is eligible as well as anyone over 18 whose “frequent institutional or occupational exposure” puts them at “high risk of serious complications.”
As a member of Congress, AOC is eligible to receive the vaccine as the capitol is considered a “high risk” workplace.
“I consulted with the House Physician about whether I should take the booster now or wait. His recommendation was that due to the high levels of community and member exposure in my work and because I am over nine months from my second shot, I should take the booster,” AOC told The Post.
“Many people do not know yet that young people are eligible in these circumstances so it’s a good way to get the word out!” she added.
The coronavirus booster has proved popular among Washington’s gerontocratic class with President Biden, 78, and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, 79, both taking the extra jab in recent days.
AOC is 31 years old and not known to be in a high-risk health group.
