The long arm of the law didn’t have to reach far when a trio of alleged armed robbers ran straight into an Illinois police station, according to a report.
Chicagoans Eddie Hill, 24, Cordell Price, 21, and Aries Rickenbacker, 22, were hit with armed robbery charges for the Friday incident at a Verizon store, the Chicago Tribune reported.
Two of the men walked into the store on South Waukegan Road, where one put a semiautomatic handgun to the head of an employee.
The crooks forced employees to open the safe, used zip ties to bind their wrists and fled with at least 20 cell phones and other electronics.
The workers managed to free themselves and called 911.
Officers in a squad car saw a vehicle speeding as it ran a red light, prompting the cops to give chase, police said.
The suspects eventually crashed the car and wound up fleeing straight into the Highland Park Police Department.
“They fled on foot. Where the crash was, was adjacent to the police parking lot,” said Deputy Chief Timothy Wilinski, according to the Chicago Tribune.
“One was taken into custody in the rear parking lot of the Highland Park Police Station. The other two fled on foot and ran into the lobby of the police station, where they were taken into custody,” Wilinski said.
The deputy chief noted that the men may have inadvertently entered the police station.
“I don’t think they knew it was a police facility,” Wilinski said. “They were hiding behind a vending machine in our lobby.”
