A startling time-lapse video shows a plane flying through the eye of Hurricane Florence.

The aircraft’s wing and propeller can be seen first shaking violently as the plane makes its way through a blanket of thick, gray clouds in the 15-second clip posted by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration on Tuesday.

But when the Lockheed WP 3D Orion pierces the storm’s eye, it’s amazingly peaceful, with a patch of clear blue sky and a ring of fluffy white clouds.

The footage was taken Monday, when aerospace engineer Nick Underwood flew through the Category 4 storm nine times in the plane dubbed a “Hurricane Hunter.”

“This is probably the coolest thing I’ve filmed,” Underwood tweeted Tuesday.

The NOAA has two so-called “Hurricane Hunter” aircrafts, which it sends into storms to collect data that can’t be gathered from radars or satellites.
