A woman riding one of Chicago’s “Divvy’’ bikes was killed in a crash Friday, the first person in the US to die in the history of modern bike-share systems.
Virginia Murray was riding the one of the bikes on the northwest side of the Windy City at 9 a.m. when she was struck by a flatbed truck, according to Chicago’s Department of Transportation.
The crash is under investigation, said officials.
It was the first time in eight years and 70 million bike trips that someone has been killed while riding a bike that is part of a shared system, according to the North American Bikeshare Association.
Divvy is operated by Motivate, the firm that runs the Citi Bike system in New York.
