Andy Dick has revealed the deadly drug he believes almost killed him after he collapsed on a Hollywood street in an exclusive phone call with The Post.
The comedian and convicted sex offender said he wanted to set the record straight after he previously told TMZ it was crack cocaine that caused him to slump over the concrete steps near a liquor store.
Dick was not taken to a local hospital after the scary episode. Joe Andaloro InstagramDick said paramedics told his friends he likely smoked the deadly opioid fentanyl.
“It has to be [fentanyl]. That’s the only thing that can kill you that quickly, like I just dropped,” the 59-year-old said.
Dick said that right before he overdosed he had “snuck away” from friends and to meet with a stranger to use drugs.
Illegally made fentanyl typically comes in power or pil form JFontan – stock.adobe.com“I ran away from them to talk to a guy that was waving me over. I was like, ‘oh this guy probably has drugs,’ and I, I love drugs,” he said. “I don’t wanna get into exactly what happened, but I just dropped.”
In the troubling moment caught on camera, Dick’s face and hands turned blue as he collapsed forward while sitting on a step outside a liquor store before he was laid on his back by friends, Shawn Harrell told The Post.
Harrell, 48, works as a security guard for the strip mall where Highland Liquor is located, the scene of Dick’s apparent overdose Tuesday night.
The whole incident lasted about 10 minutes and Dick, 59, was not taken to a hospital, Harrell told The Post.
The comedian was eventually put on his back and Narcan was administered.
“I thought he’d passed away. They started spraying Narcan and tapping him on the chest. They were trying to keep him awake because he was non-responsive. They used more than one Narcan,” Harrell recounted. Narcan is generally a medication used to help people suffering opioid overdoses, whereas crack is a stimulant.
Michelle Farrell, who has managed Dick since 2002 and considers him a close friend, said she has never seen him use hard drugs like crack — but said she understands he thought he was smoking weed.
“He might have just thought it was marijuana or something. Somebody passed him the joint because he would never do anything that’s like injecting himself, he will never do something like that,” she said.
As for his previous comments about crack cocaine being to blame, the funny man claims he was merely cracking a joke.
“I jokingly said a little crack every now and then, not gonna kill anybody, but it killed me. It killed me. I died, you know, my lips turned purple,” he said.
