Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took to Twitter to attack lawmakers from both parties who sent a letter to the Federal Reserve asking it to bail out unregulated lenders.
“I don’t care what party you’re in. This is unacceptable,” AOC thundered to her 6.8 million followers.
“Even more appalled to see that virtually every signatory of this letter sits on the Financial Services Committee. Democrat AND Republican members are engaged in this horrendous behavior. It is wrong and erodes the public trust. They should return the cash or rescind the letter.”
New York Rep. Lee Zeldin was among the signatories of the letter. Unregulated lenders have caused controversy in the past, offering high-interest loans in low-income communities.
“Large numbers of Americans rely on non-bank credit to make ends meet, finance major purchases (including automobiles), and to handle emergency expenses,” the letter read.
“We hope you agree that any expanded … program should include investment-grade securities backed by unsecured consumer loans as eligible collateral.”
